Florida’s Free Field Goal and Mystery Yard

by Jacob

Reading time: About 0 minutes

It’s well documented that the Refs aided the Florida win over the Razorbacks yesterday.  A couple points that have been left out is the field goal that shouldn’t have counted (forced a punt) and the first down that gave the gators the chance to run the clock out on the Hogs.

kick

A couple plays after the no call on offensive pass interference which prevented Arkansas Taking possession with an interception / or at least moving Florida out of Field Goal Range…

offensive

Tim Tebow ran the ball just inside the 20 yard line but was given an extra yard which gave the Gators the first down with 0:41 left in the game.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but that was not a mystery yard. The blue and yellow lines on tv were not in the correct location. If you look (you will have to watch the game as i dont think its shown in the pictures) at where the line of scrimmage markers are, they are a yard in front of the blue line which marks the line of scrimmage on tv. It was a tv mistake, not a mistake by the refs.

who cares where the line is. The ball was not spotted where he was down… That’s the issue.

Misread the argument, sorry. So that makes it 2nd and 1…you think Tebow can get the yard on 2nd down? If they marked it as you would have liked them to, there probably wouldnt have been anytime left for that hook and ladder play. Game over.

Not the point Marc, the refs spot the ball totally wrong and that the other calls against ark (and not called against fla) are unexcusable! All I can say is get those refs out of the sec, not just b/c of the ark/fla game but also the lsu/ga game. Send ‘em back to officiating high school games so they can get the basics of the game back down!

      Marc,

The blue line you referred to marks the 20 yd line (red zone)and has nothing what-so-ever to do with the first down marker. If I remember this play correctly, it was 3rd down on Tebow’s run and had they not incorrectly give Fla the first down, it would have/should have been 4th and 1 yard to go. This coupled with the other terrible calls/no calls resulted in Arkansas getting jobbed (again).

Good Lord, enough of the whining already. The only really bad call was the PF that moved the ball from the 18 yard line to the 10. Chances are the gators score anyway.
OTOH, if you don’t miss two FGs and Mallett hits his wide open WRs in the endzone, twicw mind you, then all this is moot. Arky had their chances.

Dave, you’ve missed the point. Referees excluded, Florida’s not in the game. The missed oportunities you mentioned should have contributed to a blowout by the Hogs. At 10-3 Florida kicked a 51 yard FG on 4th and 22. Only, the play clock had expired. They should have beed pentalized 5 yds and forced to punt. That play alone kept the Gators in the game. The late hit on Dennis Johnson that wasnt called, the offensive pass interference in the end zone that wasnt called, along with the calls in the 4th quarter that have been documented were the difference. Oh and by the way, Arkansas sacked Tebow 6 times. You will never make me believe that the Gator o-line didn’t hold and get away with it at least once. They seemed to have no way of protecting Tebow otherwise.

Well, I guess the SEC decided that these so-called refs needed to reflect on their ability to call games after all. Kudo’s to the SEC!!

But my guess is, that if the exact plays were called in Hogs’s favor, this thread would still be posted….only on from the Gator board.

Marc, are you serious??? One side of the ball is over the end of the yard line, not 3 feet ahead where they spotted it. I’m sorry but there is absolutely no way you can argue that that call was the correct one, its completely obvious in the picture. It doesn’t matter where the TV lines were, thats not even the point of the arguement. THE BALL IS 3 FEET AHEAD OF WHERE IT CAME DOWN, thats the arguement. Open your eyes.

LOL, think its bad. Just watch every time Georgia gets a drive going today. Youll see a 3rd and long.

I moved to Gainesville and am inspecting the whole thing. But you got to take a little at a time. But its obvious they will be draged into the NC game by boosters and refs. Sad world we live in. I cant get a break in this town, yet refs get free blow jobs. Guess I will have to make my break by breaking this story in a few years.
