Coach Bobby Petrino Injured in Motorcycle Crash – Updated

Bobby Petrino was sent to the hospital last night after wrecking his motorcycle at approximately 6:45 PM. He was immediately taken to the Washington County Hospital. No further details regarding his condition are known at this time.

The crash happened Sunday night on Arkansas Highway 16 in Madison County, near the community of Crosses, Police spokesman Bill Sadler said. Petrino was driving a motorcycle that left the highway and crashed, Sadler said.

Petrino’s spokesman, Zack Higbee, would not comment or confirm Monday that the coach was involved in a crash.

The University of Arkansas Athletics Department has issued a statement via

FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas head football coach Bobby Petrino was involved in a motorcycle accident Sunday evening near the town of Crosses in Madison County, Arkansas.  Arkansas State Police responded to the accident.

The university is releasing the following statement from coach Petrino’s family.

“Coach Petrino was involved in a motorcycle accident on Sunday evening that involved no other individuals. He is in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery. Our family appreciates respect for our privacy during the recovery and we are grateful for the thoughts of Razorback fans at this time.”

Jeff Long, director of athletics and vice chancellor, said he has been in touch with the Petrinos and added that he will consult with the family to provide additional information at a later time. Until then, there will be no further information or comment on the accident per the Petrinos’ request.

Late this afternoon I had an opportunity to visit with Coach Petrino and Becky at the hospital. Coach Petrino is resting comfortably and is encouraged by the progress of his recovery. I know that he is very much looking forward to returning to spring practice at the earliest opportunity. In the course of our visit, the Petrinos expressed their appreciation for all the thoughts and well wishes that have come in from all over the country. I am confident that everyone in the Razorback Nation is united in wishing Coach Petrino a speedy recovery.
