My opinion is that the service provided was over the line. It strains the imagination to think of a likely circumstance where it’s not. EVEN IF Pinnacle was using athletes’ images without their knowledge or consent (which I doubt), NCAA Bylaws say that it’s incumbent upon the athlete to tell ‘em to quit. (Of course a high school player doesn’t become a “student athlete” until he’s actually recruited by someone. If the fella just doesn’t get recruited, he probably has nothing to worry about, except maybe the money spent.)

Providing web service graphics or providing highlight videos are services which parents would likely want for their son? There’s nothing wrong with that. Even a small web page creator link at the bottom of a player’s personal page is probably ok.

Parents sending highlight videos and letters of interest to places where the son may want to go to school is the way it’s done.

Providing the names and addresses of coaches and schools and maybe even the coach assigned to the particular territory that the athlete’s in…. no problem.

Telling the parents how to go about it. That’s fine.

Having an opinion that the University of Arkansas stinks, as much as I don’t like it, it’s fine too.

They way I read all this is that once a high school player begins to be recruited, he becomes a student athlete under the rules. When that happens, the athlete’s name and image can’t be used to promote any commercial business. An athlete can’t hire a “scholarship agent.” In my opinion, that’s what’s happening here.

It appears BP has had the good sense to not associate himself with this walking talking violation.
