It’s Crunch Time for the The Diamond Hogs

The Arkansas Razorback Baseball team, under Head Coach Dave Van Horn, are in what is known as “crunch time”. With 2 series left to play out at Baum Stadium, the Diamond Hogs are in need of a few wins to clinch a spot in the 8-team conference tournament.

Tonight is a game that won’t hold too much importance when it comes to the SEC Tournament, but could mean something for the NCAA Tournament if the Hogs can make it happen. This is going to be a good game to get in to keep the players loose and focused, give them a little bit more experience, and hopefully with a win, they will take some momentum into the weekend series.

Even bigger than the game tonight, is the series that will be played over the weekend at Baum Stadium. This weekend, the Hogs play host to the Ole Miss Rebel Black Bears. And Ole Miss still has a shot at making the conference tournament. Currently, there are 4 teams tied for 1st place in the SEC West. Arkansas, Alabama, Miss State, and Auburn. This makes the weekend series against Ole Miss a MUST win for the Hogs if they want to keep Ole Miss out of the tourny and make sure that the Hogs get in! Ole Miss is looking to take the series because with a series win over Arkansas, they could move into that 4th slot and make the cut.

The SEC East is pretty cut and dry about who is going to make the tourny. There is a HUGE gap between #4 and #5. The battle here is for bragging rights and seeding in the tourney.

Here are the current SEC Standings broken down into East and West and the series that are slated to be played this weekend.

1. South Carolina (20-7)
1. Vanderbilt (20-7)
1. Florida (20-7)
4. Georgia (15-12)
5. Kentucky (7-20)
