AUSTIN, Texas – Texas built a big lead in the first half and wasted little time in extending the margin in the second half as the Longhorns posted a 52-10 win over Arkansas Saturday.

Leading 31-3 at the break, Texas took the opening kickoff of the second half and drove 71 yards in eight plays to push the margin to 38-3.

Colt McCoy passed for 56 yards on the drive and found Quan Cosby for the 13-yard score on a slant pattern from the left.

McCoy did most of the damage himself, on that drive and for the game. On the day, he was 17-of-19 passing for 185 yards and three touchdowns. He also had nine carries for 84 yards and two touchdowns. When McCoy didn’t call his own number, Vondrell McGee ran 16 times for 48 yards while Cody Johnson ran nine times for 43 yards. Jordan Shipley had eight receptions for 83 yards and Cosby five for 67.

Texas made it 45-3 on its second possession of the third quarter when McCoy found Shipley for a six-yard score in the back right corner of the end zone.

No. 7 Texas improved to 4-0 while the loss dropped Arkansas to 2-2 heading into Saturday’s 11:30 a.m. home game against No. 4 Florida. Both of Arkansas’ losses are to teams ranked in the top 10.

The Razorbacks managed just 191 yards of total offense, including only 11 on the ground.

Casey Dick was pressured most of the day and finished seven-of-13 passing for 138 yards. Freshman Tyler Wilson was seven-of-15 for 42 yards with an interception.

Michael Smith had 42 yards rushing on 13 carries, and 38 yards receiving on two catches. D.J. Williams had four catches for 39 yards and London Crawford three for 51.

Aaron Williams’ interception off Wilson and 81-yard return for a touchdown pushed the lead to 52-3 with 9:31 remaining.

Arkansas’ touchdown came on an 80-yard fumble return by senior end Antwain Robinson with just more than two minutes remaining. Robinson now has four touchdowns for his career – two on fumble returns and two on interception returns.

Arkansas’ best defensive series came late in the first half when the Razorbacks forced a fourth-and-18 from the UT 20. After the punt, Dick was sacked and fumbled at the UA 20. Johnson gained nine yards on two rushes and McCoy did the rest. His runs of one, five and five yards gave Texas a 31-3 lead with 44 seconds remaining in the first half.

In the first 30 minutes, McCoy completed 10-of-12 passes for 100 yards and a touchdown, and ran seven times for 80 yards and two more scores. Johnson had eight carries for 41 yards and Shipley five catches for 46. Texas generated 241 yards of offense while holding Arkansas to 136. Dick was six-of-11 passing for 124 yards.

The Razorbacks got on the board midway through the second quarter with a nine-play, 72-yard drive.

Dick had completions of 26 yards to Williams, 24 yards to Smith and 11 yards to Joe Adams. Shay Haddock got the points with a 30-yard field goal from the left hash. Haddock got in the game after Alex Tejada missed a 44-yard field goal attempt in the first period on Arkansas’ second possession of the game.

UT quickly answered. Following a 12-yard run by Johnson and a 12-yard pass to Shipley, McCoy sprinted 35 yards around the left end for a 24-3 Longhorn advantage with 8:10 to play in the second quarter.

Two plays into the second, Texas led 17-0 on a Johnson one-yard plunge. McCoy passed for 44 yards on the drive.

The Longhorns took control early, maintaining possession for 10:23 of the first quarter while producing 152 yards of offense. Arkansas had nine yards of total offense.

Texas took a 10-0 lead at the 4:28 mark of the first period on an eight-yard pass from McCoy to Shipley in the left front corner of the end zone. McCoy began the drive with a 12-yard scramble and a 17-yard quarterback draw around a six-yard pass to move to the Arkansas 37. Five plays later, McCoy rolled to his left and threw behind Shipley, who turned and made the catch while dragging his toes in the end zone.

Following an Arkansas three-and-out to open the game, Texas scored on its first possession. The Longhorns began the drive at the Razorback 40 and quickly moved to the 20 with consecutive passes from McCoy to Shipley.

On third-and-two at the 16, freshman nose tackle Zach Stadther stopped McGee for a one-yard loss, forcing Texas to settle for Hunter Lawrence’s 34-yard field goal and a 3-0 lead at the 11:20 mark.

On Arkansas’ second possession, Dick hit Adams for 18 yards to the Texas 45 and a pass interference penalty moved the ball to the 30 before the drive stalled. Tejada missed a 44-yard field goal which would have tied the game.
