In 1958 Frank Broyles took over the Head Coaching position for the Hogs and lost his first 6 games before turning things around. Phil put together a nice summary of the beginning of the Frank Broyles era over in the Razorback History Forum.
After the 1957 season, John Barnhill was once again in the market for a head coach after Mitchell had returned to his home state to take over the football fortunes of the Kansas Jayhawks. The leading candidate for the job was rumored to be Minnesota’s Murray Warmath. Frank Broyles got it though. And people in Missouri, where Broyles had been on the job for only one season, felt even more jilted than Razorback fans. In fact they were downright bitter about it and carried a grudge throughout Broyles’ coaching tenure at Arkansas. Hell they are still P.O.ed about it.
