1936 ownby Stub
The stadium information for most of the games played at SMU have been added to the database. In total, Arkansas has played SMU 73 times and leads the series 37-31-5 (0.507). The Mustangs played in quite a few stadiums through the years, and it was a confusing mess trying to figure out where we played them each season. With a little help from Wikipedia, the SMU Media Guide, and an SMU Traffic Simulation (?) we were able to piece everything together.
I haven’t been able to verify anything earlier, but in 1926 SMU built Ownby Stadium. Ownby served as the Mustangs home field from 26-47, but their success (8-1-0 vs Arkansas) forced them into a larger stadium. Beginning in 1948 SMU used the Cotton Bowl as their home field before moving to Texas Stadium in 1979. After the NCAA hit SMU with the Death Penalty in 87, (which forced the Mustangs to stop playing for two years) they returned to Ownby Stadium in 1989. In 1995, SMU again moved to the Cotton Bowl where they stayed until Gerald J. Ford Stadium was built in 2000.
Did ya get all that?
