Today in Razorback History – January 1st

By Jacob on January 1, 2010

Happy New Year’s Day!

The Razorback Football team are 5-12-2 when playing on January 1st.  We played our first bowl game in 1934 vs Centenary in the now defunct Dixie Bowl which ended in a 7-7 tie.

The 1965 Cotton Bowl (game summary / video) stands out as our most important game ever played on January 1st.  The Hogs came back to beat Nebraska which made the Razorbacks the only undefeated team in the country and National Champions after Texas beat Alabama later that day.

Ten years ago today the Razorbacks man-handled Texas in the 2000 Cotton Bowl in our first meeting with the Longhorns since leaving the SWC.
