Waking Up from a LONG nap to….Some People!
I forgot how much I was missing college football until SEC Media days kicked off. I even went so far as to start going to the stream from 103.7 to get some Arkansas news. I am stuck with a toothpick named Finebaum over here and his little club of callers. I swear these people have to be scripted. The caller of the year was a gentleman that was in his first year as a caller. He would have participated prior to this but he had to wait on hold to long and they have time limits on calls in prison. What a boat load of pompous weirdos. Like Mickey Mouse Club gone bad.
Arkansas is picked second in the West behind Alabama. That would seem the natural pick so I can’t argue with that. Like any team, Arkansas is in direct control of their destiny. If they can take care of business at home against the Tide they will be in the drivers seat. However, if if’s and butt’s were candy and nuts, every day would be Christmas. Saban is bound to try and shorten the game by running with Ingram and Richardson so he can keep Mallett off the field. The Hogs have some young blood coming in on the D-line but LB is thin and we all remember the secondary of last year. Hopefully, Winston will come into his own and the defense can make strides enough to put an end to the big plays and play like they did against Florida last year. If the officials will stop the stupid calls to help the elite of the conference you might get to see some fresh faces in the SEC Championship game, also known as the BCS Championship game. The one they play in January is just for entertainment purposes.
I found myself thinking about the upcoming college football season while I was at work today. That hasn’t happened since…….ummmmmmmmm, yesterday. I am like Custer at Little Big Horn with all the Bammers, Barners, Gators, and Bulldogs that are there. Then there are some fans I have to contend with as well. Ok, pitiful. I know.
Now you don’t have to worry too much about the Bulldog fans, at least the ones I know, because they are quiet and unassuming people. Ok, there is 1 but I was trying to work it. Now Gator fans number in the 3’s and these three don’t get up in your face with it so I can deal with them too. Auburn fans don’t even really talk about football so that is easy. Now we have the Bama fans. Oh my! Now Bamamom is as big a fan as you will ever meet but she is not one to hold it over your head so I do not include her in the mix but some of them are just outrageous. There is one that got mad because I put a sign on his wall that was out of a Florida paper that shows a tee shirt that says “Cheating wins championships” and under that I wrote Roll Tide. Can you imagine that getting anyone upset at THAT?
I didn’t think so either.
Another got mad when I printed a copy of the cover of the Arkansas media guide that features Ryan Mallett. It says get ready on it and I though it was a nice picture so I wrote Alabamas nightmare on it and put it on the wall in his office. All the other teams fans thought it was cute but this guy……….well I guess he has no sense of humor. All the pressure must be getting to him.
I hate it when people do dumb stuff to rub you the wrong way and mess with you. And I was just aghast at the reaction these guys had at my efforts to try and spread some joy and sunshine. Well, being the kind of guy I am, forgiving and all, I will continue to try and bring a smile to their lips as the summer slowly moves towards fall.
I hope they learn to relax a little bit. You know, lay back and smell the flowers. Enjoy life as it moves along and soak up the smiles and love that is all around us. You know, like their coach Nick.
