The Arkansas Razorbacks won a bowl game. The last was a 27-14 victory over Missouri in the Independence Bowl played on December 31, 2003.
Bobby Petrino got a win when the final decisive points were made with a field goal. On November 28, 2009, LSU kicked a field goal to win 33-30 to beat Arkansas . On October 17, 2009, No. 1 Florida escaped with a 23-20 win over Arkansas on a late field goal. Petrino’s 2006 Louisville Cardinals lost 28-25 to Rutgers on a field goal kicked by Rutgers with 13 seconds left. It was Louisville’s only loss of the year finishing 12-1. On October 4, 2003, Louisville lost 31-28 on an overtime field goal by South Florida. Over the years, Petrino’s clubs have won games decided by 3 points or fewer, but this is the first game as a college football head coach where any Bobby Petrino team has won by scoring a field goal. (I doubt this has been noticed elsewhere except maybe in Petrino’s head.)
Alex Tejada scored a game-winning field goal for the first time in his career.
Arkansas’s Defense scored 3 times this season. The last time it did so was 2007.
The Razorbacks led the SEC in two offensive categories this year in conference stats kept by the NCAA. They were in Passing Offense and Scoring Offense. Arkansas hasn’t led the SEC in two positive offensive categories (that excludes fumbles lost) in stats back to 2000.
The Hogs led the SEC in four positive team categories for the first time since 2003. In addition to Scoring Offense and Passing Offense, the Razorbacks led in Fumbles Recovered and Turnovers Gained.
This is Arkansas’s second win in the State of Tennessee since 2000.
It may very well be the first time that Arkansas has ever beaten both a father’s team and a son’s team who were head coaches.
This is Arkansas’s first win in January since 2000.
Arkansas won the Liberty Bowl for the first time. The Razorbacks have played in the Liberty Bowl a total of 4 times since 1971.
Thanks Razorbacks for 2009!
